Further £2.5million sought for Maze
Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott, a member of the Assemblys OFMDFM Committee, said he is horrified to witness the Department "haemorrhaging money, simply because of an inability to reach consensus".
“Having shelved plans for the Maze Stadium, the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) is now seeking £2.5million for the purpose of decontaminating a site for which a future has still not been agreed. I would question the wisdom of ploughing yet more money into the project simply to restore it to some kind of ‘Garden of Eden’ while the Department remains immobilised by dissent.
“I have requested a full break-down of the costs to date in light of the fact that we are back at precisely ‘square one’, with just a scrapped masterplan to show for the taxpayers’ money,” the Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said.
“Similarly OFMDFM is handing back the £9.8 million allocated to the regeneration of Crumlin Road Gaol, once again because a way forward cannot be agreed upon. Another set of plans sent back to the drawing board!
