Everyone has right to live in peace
Ulster Unionist Assemblyman for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Tom Elliott, has called for a halt to attacks on homes following incidents in Moygashel over the weekend.
“I have been made aware of attacks on three properties in Moygashel, which I believe may have been home to foreign nationals.
“Following a succession of incidents in Belfast last week the prospect of racist thuggery gaining momentum and spreading to other parts of the province is deeply worrying,” Mr Elliott said.
“Everybody who wants to form part of this community, or any other, has the right to live in peace and be treated with respect. The Northern Ireland community should not be subject to attacks on foreign nationals or by foreign nationals.”
Dungannon Ulster Unionist councillor Walter Cuddy said that community relations must not be unsettled by the actions of a “mindless few”.
“If Northern Ireland is ever to move into a genuinely new era then we need to get away from attacks on any community.
“I would appeal to those responsible for such attacks to bring them to an end. This is an unnecessary and destructive course of action.”
