Elliott condemns activity of 32 County Sovereignty Movement in Fermanagh

Ulster Unionist MLA, Tom Elliott, has said that the continued activity of the 32 County Sovereignty Committee "is a sad day for Fermanagh."

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone representative said: “The 32 County Sovereignty Committee is an organisation which is inextricably linked to the Real IRA Terrorist movement. The news that they are operating in Fermanagh, while not surprising, is not only upsetting for victims of paramilitary violence but is also extremely worrying. We know that they were present in Newtownbutler on the night of the annual band parade, where Republican Youths sought to create trouble when it was completely unnecessary. They are a group who thrive on disillusionment and are hell-bent on pulling Northern Ireland backwards.”

“In a clearly provocative move, I understand that the group are naming their branch in the County after Jim Lynagh. He was an IRA terrorist who was one of eight men actively seeking to murder innocent people before the SAS stepped in and put an end to their evil activates in Loughgall.”

“It is ironic that on their website the Committee talk about campaigning on Human Rights Issues. You have to ask yourself, what about the Human Rights of those people murdered in the Omagh Bomb? They were robbed of their right to life as were so many others by the Republican murder machine. I, like any right thinking individual, cannot condemn strongly enough the arrival of this group in County Fermanagh. They are a reminder of a failed past when Republicans believed they could bomb and murder their way into a United Ireland.”
