CRIMINALS SEEM TO BE REWARDED WHILE VICTIMS SUFFER INJUCTICES

Ulster Unionist Assembly member for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, Tom Elliott MLA has highlighted his concerns regarding the convicted terrorists and murders that have recently been released from prisons in the Irish Republic and in England who are in many cases being treated like heroes whilst the victims continue to suffer.

Tom said: “The release of Pearse McAuley and Kevin Walsh from Castlerea prison for the murder of Garda McCabe who was shot 15 times in a robbery in 1996 in Adare and also more worrying is the fact that British authorities were no longer seeking to extradite the two criminals for shooting their way out of Brixton prison are now being treated by Sinn Fein as heroes. Mr. Ferris and Sinn Fein deliberately and publicly associate themselves with people who killed an innocent man but not a word about Mr. Gerry McCabe’s widow, no remorse. This is the party who want Policing & Justice to be restored to Stormont as soon as possible and have a major say in this Department and continue to support and solidarity with convicted killers. It simply would not be tolerated in another part of the world; it is wrong, immoral and cannot be justified.

It adds to my strong belief that the British & Irish authorities have no desire to seek the truth in many criminal and terrorist acts, in case it rocks the cosy Sinn Fein & DUP partnership at Stotmont. Will we ever see anyone convicted of the £26m Northern Bank robbery and the Omagh bomb, it is simply not opportune or no strong desire by both governments to see natural justice, the truth will never be revealed? One must never forget the thousands of people in Northern Ireland who had loved ones killed during the troubles and never received any justice or closure due to the fact that the killers were never brought before the courts or convicted of some of the most heinous crimes. These killers continue in many instances to walk our streets while the innocent victim’s lives have been devastated.

Victims have rights and if Sinn Fein wish to play a part in the democratic process they should end their support and solidarity for killers and bloodshed”
