Ulster Unionist Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA, Tom Elliott, has commended councillor Ross Hussey, chairman of the RUC GC Association Part Time Officers Welfare Group, on his tireless work to secure recognition for the service of part-time RUC officers.

Ulster Unionist Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA, Tom Elliott, has commended councillor Ross Hussey, chairman of the RUC GC Association Part Time Officers Welfare Group, on his tireless work to secure recognition for the service of part-time RUC officers.

"The Ulster Unionist Party, led on this issue by West Tyrone councillor Ross Hussey, has been at the forefront of calls for a fair deal for part-time police officers.

"News that officers are in line for part of a £20,000,000 settlement of their claim for the payment of a gratuity for part time service with the RUC is certainly welcome, if long overdue," Tom said.

"Such a payment would recognise the service of part time members and also serves as an acknowledgement that they were underpaid for the work that they did and the sacrifice of, in many cases, social and family life.

"Councillor Hussey has sought a resolution to this issue for over 10 years, and is well placed to do so, given his background as a serving officer, with the RUCGC Association and specifically the Part Time Officers Welfare Group.

"I, like councillor Hussey, look forward to hearing further details of the settlement and to seeing this long and hard fought battle brought to a conclusion."
