Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott has condemned those responsible for the weekend attack in Garrison, Co Fermanagh and also praising the Police for how they have dealt with and are continuing to deal with the situation.
The Fermanagh & South Tyrone MLA said: "I assume this attack was carried out by dissident republicans, who are currently a scourge within our community. These terrorists need to be proactively dealt with by the security services and not allowed to carry out their murderous attacks at will.
"I must also praise the work of the Police on being successful in their dealing with this attack and that no innocent people were killed or injured. I trust that the public will help ensure successful arrests and convictions will flow from this attack.
"There is also a responsibility on the courts to deal with those found guilty of such activity in a manner that treats the incident with the serious nature of it and acts as a deterrent to others.
"Incidents like this continue to prove the UUP stance on being cautious to the devolution of Policing and Justice as being the right one, otherwise such operations could come within the influence of Sinn Fein, which the majority of people in Northern Ireland would be suspicious about."
