Ulster Unionist MLA, Tom Elliott, has said that he is "both delighted and optimistic" after student courses created by the South west College in conjunction with St Angelo airport were published.

In a statement, Mr Elliott said: "Two months ago the Minister for Employment and Learning, Sir Reg Empey, visited Fermanagh to help progress a new project between the South West College and St Angelo. Since then terrific progress has been made in terms of moving forward and we now find ourselves in a position to make the courses that will be available known to the public. They will be City & Guilds Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering Level 2, City & Guilds NVQ level 2 and 3 Aeronautical Engineering and City & Guilds Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering Level 3."

"Having worked with officials from both St Angelo and the South West College throughout the duration of this project I know that they are both extremely optimistic, as am I, about the possibilities that now exist. These courses will give people an opportunity to enjoy new experiences and follow careers paths which would otherwise be unavailable to them, and hopefully in the long run it will also lead to job creation in a high skilled area of expertises enhancing Fermanagh’s already wonderful reputation for aeronautical engineering."

"At a time when we all remain conscious of economic difficulties this is very good news, not only for the individuals who will benefit personally for participating in the courses, but also for the organisations involved and the wider community, including local businesses, who will benefit financially from potential job creation.
