Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott has hailed the common-sense approach of the UUP Minister Danny Kennedy that bi-lingual traffic signs will not be introduced across the road network in Northern Ireland.
Mr Elliott said: "I am pleased that following a consultation on a draft proposal to permit bi-lingual signs Minister Kennedy has decided not to proceed with the proposal.
"This is good common-sense decision making by the Minister. Bi-lingual signs only provide confusion for the community and the print can often be that small it is difficult to read in any language.
"Obviously in these times of more stringent economic pressures it is more important that the Executive is not wasting money unnecessarily.
"I hope more Ministers take a more sensible approach like Minister Kennedy."
