ELLIOTT – BOILER REPLACEMENT SCHEME HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL
Ulster Unionist Assembly member for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, Tom Elliott has praised the success of the pilot boiler replacement scheme which closed at the end of March 2012, with a total of £2m being invested in installing new boilers in over 1,300 homes throughout Northern Ireland .
Tom said: “When this scheme was first announced the Ulster Unionist Party launched a campaign to encourage as many home owners to apply and fought to get lone pensioners to be included in the scheme which was later agreed and many people who have been successful can now testify to improved energy savings at a time of high oil prices.
“I am pleased to see from latest figures published that the spread of installations has been spread throughout Northern Ireland and not confined to urban areas only. It is pleasing to note that in Fermanagh and the Dungannon & South Tyrone Council areas that 108 homes have benefited and among the highest rates of installations with Lisburn Council area having the highest rate with 102 installations.
“This scheme has greatly improved domestic energy efficiency and the interest in the scheme has been tremendous and I trust when a full evaluation takes place by DSD that the scheme can be re-introduced in future years to assist the many people who are still suffering from fuel poverty. This initiative as well as assisting 1,300 home owners was also a boost for the plumbing industry.”
